Why do pork skins’ nutrition facts say that the 7 grams of protein are "Not a significant source of protein."?
Posted under skin nutritionIsn’t protein, protein?
Bob B, that is not quite what I’m asking.
I’m wondering why the bag even says "Not a significant source of protein," considering other foods’ nutrition facts with less than 7 grams of protein do not say "Not a significant source of protein" on the label.
The protein in pork skins is mostly collagen, rich in proline, hydroxyproline and glycine, all nonessential amino acids. It is a poor source of the amino acids that your body does not synthesize.

Yes, protein is protein but 7 grams isn’t very much, especially when the recommended amount of daily protein intake is 0.8 grams for every kg of body weight.
