When to start using anti-wrinkle cream?

Posted under anti aging treatment

A girl friend and I were having a debate today on what age a woman should start investing in anti-wrinkle and other anti-aging treatments? (Creams, serums, etc.)

Obviously BEFORE signs of aging… but what do you all think? Thanks in advance!

To be completely honest with you…I don’t think anti-wrinkle creams work. At all. Usually they’re just something older women run to at the first sight of a wrinkle or crease. I don’t think they do much at all. They may temporarily reduce the appearance of wrinkles once you have them, but I don’t think they do much in preventing them. You’re much better off moisturizing (dry skin is the leading cause of wrinkles) and wearing sun screen EVERYDAY (the sun is the main cause of dry skin…as well as freckles and other spots). As for what age…I think the sooner you start, the better. I’m 18. I don’t use anti-wrinkle creams, because I have no wrinkles. But, I do wear sunscreen everyday and moisturize everyday. Had I known a few years ago what I know now, I would have started protecting my skin much earlier!

Do you know that our skin collagen decreases 1% each year after the age of 25. A reduction in collagen will lead to lines, wrinkles and sagging skin. So you are never too early for a good skincare regimen.

There are 2 types of aging:

One is Chronological aging. We age as we grow older, it’s a genetic factor that we cannot change.

Another type of aging is called photoaging which refers to the damage that is done to skin from harsh environment. For example, UV ray is skin’s #1 enemy. Photoaging is something preventable, however, if we don’t take care of skin properly, photoaging can lead to chronological aging which will become permanent.

So a good skin regimen and put on sunscreen when you go out are some good ways to start with.

And when you reach the age of mid 20, you can start investing on some anti-aging skincare treatment.

    Hey,

This is a very common question. Many women start at age 40, but in saying that its not unheard of for women as young as 25 to start using anti-wrinkle creams. It depends a lot on your ethnic background and habits (do you smoke etc).

The website listed below may help answer more of your questions.

    Good luck,

    Alison
